It’s safe to say you can’t always anticipate the surprises life can throw your way from day to day. Whether it’s running into an old flame, losing a button on your blouse right before the big meeting, or fumbling your morning latte into the lap of your best skirt- Sh*t happens! And while we can’t predict the future we can at least be prepared.
I’m always on the go. I never know who I’ll bump in to throughout the course of a day. I see at least one client, collaborator, or special someone I admire on a simple trip to the grocery store! So I usually step out of the house with a well-stocked arsenal of the best fix-it-quick fashion & beauty remedies, just in case I suffer from an only-human mishap along the way. I’m not big on hoarding (see step one of my SORT, SHOP & STYLE experience), so I encourage you to tailor your Tiny Tote contents to just the necessities that best suit your lifestyle. Here are some ideas…
Start with a Small Tote:
First: Emergency Stain Removal
Wine Away will knock out anything from- well, wine for one, but remember that latte you fumbled into your best skirt? Coffee too! For scarey oil-based stains, it’s Janie’s Spot Stick. This magical little cleaner can eliminate anything from makeup stains to olive oil in 5 minutes. A God-send indeed. And one of the first to hit the travel-size stain scene, the Tide-To-Go pen, which works great on dirt and pen marks.
Second: Beauty Busters
I’m a minimalist when it comes to make-up in general, but I can get on board with stowing some touch-up lip color and perhaps the occasional wand of mascara, but for the most part I keep this line-up simple. Tissues are self explanatory and pretty versatile in terms of range of uses. Rice Paper is a personal fave for blotting away the hard work of a successful shopping trip (I get a bit glisten-y). Paired with Pure Pitz deodorant, I’m set for beating sweat. And while I am often engaging people through conversation, I like to keep healthy looking lips and good smelling breath. Queue chapstick and tiny Altoids!
Third: Fashion Fix-its
This selection could be modified based on the type of day you’re dressing for, but let’s cover the two most valuable building blocks- Safety Pins and Double-Sided Tape. What can’t you fix with a few safety pins, really? A tear, a missing button, a busted zipper, the list goes on. And while I recommend seeing your tailor first thing, consider the safety pin the donut to your flat. Need to fix a hem, secure a risky neckline, or hide a bra strap? All of these things double-sided tape does well.
And in the end…
Toss your tiny tote into your purse or glove compartment and you’re good to go!
