This Full Moon it came as no surprise the wealth of information we found when researching the ever fascinating innovation that is 3D Printing. From printing prototypes and life-like blue prints, to medical implants and prosthesis, it was only a matter of time before the fashion world became acquainted with the interesting new craze. It would seem there are already plenty of designers and brands attempting to claim the throne as the forerunners of the 3D fashion phenomena- and not just on a couture level! Technology for printing jewelry parts has been available for quite some time now. And everyday athletic brand, New Balance has apparently been dabbling in the trend. Eventually, consumers may be able to buy clothing designs online and print them out at home. We even caught wind of an at-home cosmetic printer, projected to be available to consumers very soon.
While it’s certainly something to marvel at, I can’t help but give a greater nod to those who have mastered the art of hand-crafting beautiful garments and accessories, from natural resources close to home. The 3D printer brings us intricate geometric detailing, and impossible shapes, but there is an authenticity behind hand-crafted that just may be the greater talent to applaud. What do you think?
