Some of you know that I worked at LAIKA Entertainment for five years. They were and still are at the cutting edge of using 3D Printing in Stop Motion animated films. Being in the studio environment where high tech merged with art and craft was fascinating. Now to be exploring 3D Printing in the realms of fashion and personal style is kind of blowing my mind! Check out the trailer for The Next Black – A film about the Future of Clothing.
Scientists are “brewing” and “growing” printable living materials to be used as fabric. There are sustainable practices to dry-dye textiles, and there are digitized materials to project art on. These things will change the likely immeasurable impact fashion has on our natural resources. It will also empower even more personal expression.
The Next Black also reminds us to invest consciously, care for our clothing, repair things, pass items on to someone you love, resell what you’re done with, and recycle what is not fixable. Responsibility lies with us.
Thanks, Skylr, for continuing to inspire me in this crazy world of technology. Thanks, Evangelina, for the tip on this film! Thanks to all of you who are doing what you can to be consciously stylish, especially my most wonderful clients! We’re in this together.
