Another season changes and you know what that means – a fresh new Style Guide to get your wheels turning on how to stay stylish, current and effortlessly on trend this Summer. As you know, I’m a fan of incorporating the new with the old, and the inexpensive with the high end, so I encourage you to adapt these looks with like-styled favorites from your very own closet. Whatever your body shape or personal style, find a little inspiration here!
You’re a stylish Mom who doesn’t want to look like she’s “trying too hard.”
Want to look effortlessly chic? Monochromatic is totally IN. In fact, you’ve probably heard me talk about it at one of our sessions. This outfit may spare color, but it spares no style! The flowy tunic skims beautifully over curves, and is perfectly framed by a 3/4 length, somewhat structured sweater. Higher-waisted jeans comfortably hold us in, preventing the dreaded “muffin top,” and luckily modern styles have the perfect pocket placement. These flat leather sandals are to-die-for. I’m lovin’ the comfort trend this season. Simple, minimal and functional.

You’re a broad-shouldered beauty with a special occasion to attend.
My sister-in-law has strong, beautiful shoulders that taper down to narrow hips and svelte, muscular legs. (I’m totally envious because that would seriously help my surfing!) She’s a trainer in San Diego who is committed to keeping her body in shape. If this sounds like you, choose patterned pants in the softest, silky style to add visual volume to your lower half. V-necks are ultra flattering, and a drop shoulder sweater will magically minimize shoulders. She tends to keep it simple when it comes to makeup, and this ColoreScience palette is easy to use and looks natural (Julene told me about it!). Let’s talk about this clutch – Holograms and luminescent colors are a hot trend this season, and one that I happen to think will last. I love it, whether it’s trending or not. Lastly, one of my favorite jewelry designers, Pippa Small. I tracked her down in London so I could meet her in person. She’s magnetic and extremely talented. Tall, with big tight curls, she was wearing stacks upon stacks of bracelets – totally crushable!

You’re petite and heading straight from Happy Hour to a show – Try rocking just a hint of West Side Story!
Ditching work early for happy hour is a given come summer, and with bars and vintage shops practically sharing storefronts, you might find yourself tempted to take an impromptu chance at a hidden gem. This tank top looks like something a 90’s gal might have hanging in the back of the her closet. So subtly 1998, yet so NOW. For those of you with longer tresses, I’m featuring this french hair clip line I found at WindowWall salon. They are surprisingly sturdy and super cool. And I am beyond excited to announce that these diamond earrings are part of my new jewelry collaboration with my collector/designer/maker friend, Hobbs Wells, called ABCoLab. We are launching this month at a pop-up event held at Halo Shoes on June 27, 28 & 29. Stop by to visit us!

You want to wear pieces you already own in a new way to a casual summer wedding.
Weddings are always a fashionable affair. Personally, I consider them a challenge to see if I can come up with a unique and appropriate outfit without having to purchase something new. If you have small shoulders and wide hips like me, this dress and patterned jacket are a flattering combo. Bold, primary colors are hot this summer, so it’s the perfect time to bust out the classic reds and blues. When I was in New York last month, I had the pleasure of visiting Selima Optique for shades. Una carries them here in Portland!

You’re a sporty gal looking to take to the trails with your love interest.
Summer means more skin bared especially if you’re the sporty, outdoorsy type. If you’re looking for a sun-free tan, I personally recommend MyChelle Sunless Tanner. It’s fragrance free, streak free, and works from natural agents derived from sugar. Make a date of it and take a picnic basket like this French “basketcase” for fun! I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of wearing skin-tight yoga pants that reveal every lump and bump in the natural light of day. The silhouette of these pants combined with the flat waist band is flattering on most women and is comfortable to boot. Let your sweetheart bring their ever-trusty camp blanket and water bottle along. Oh, and the Pacific Wonderland T-shirt – I might steal that if I were you.

You’re a Vogue obsessed teen and you’ve got an insatiable passion for fashion!
My assistant, Stevie, and I got to talking about how important it is for teenage girls to cultivate their own sense of style during an age of constant bombardment from brands and peers to buy, buy, buy and look a certain way. We can both remember the pressures we felt as teenagers and since then, made it a priority to mentor young women who are in this vulnerable time of their lives. She presented an amazing idea and I couldn’t be more enthusiastic… Later this summer, we’ll be asking you to nominate a young woman for a Sweet 16 Back To School Styling Service! We plan on infusing the same principles I share regarding less is more, quality over quantity, and self-expression through clothes. Meanwhile, boho-chic festival looks have probably got your little fashionista’s heart stopping this summer, so take note of this ensemble. An adorable romper and flat brimmed hat are a sure fire combo to stay cool and cute this summer. And remember the days of Birkenstocks? Well, they’re back. Easy, single strapped sandals, in all their slip-on glory are likely to be at the top of your teen’s summer wardrobe wishlist.
