I can’t wait to get a sweater and my favorite dark denim back out for Fall. It can be hard with all the new styles and trends hitting our radar during the change in seasons. Often times we feel compelled to purchase new, seasonally appropriate items because, well, marketing. Instead, revive your existing pieces from last year’s fall fashion bounty with these simple styling tricks!
1. Color Combos.
This season has a whole slew of new color pairings that provide a fresh face to your outfits. Try pairing that pink sweater with a red button down layered underneath, or your teal heels with wine-colored pants. This year, grey and black, black and navy, amber and royal blue, and pink and red are just a few of the hot new color couples.
2. Layering.
One of the oldest tricks in the book and our favorite for chilly weather. With unpredictable temperatures this time of year it can be extra brisk in the morning and suddenly roasting by afternoon. Realizing it was indeed too soon to bust out that cozy cable knit can be frustrating. Unless of course it was layered with a graphic tee, a sturdy camisole and a sheer scarf. Break it down to T-shirt level, or wait for the work day to close and head out into the sun with your tank and delicately draped scarf. Voila!
3. Texture.
When I think fall fashion, I think of a certain richness. A warm, yummy feeling suddenly applies to my clothes and not just to the hot beverages I’m craving. Playing with texture can set off your look unexpectedly, and in a really great way. A quilted bag next to a coarse, wool coat, or a dreamy silk blouse tucked into a tweed skirt. Texture lends a playful spirit and a hint of irreverence that just might send your confidence through the roof. Try it!
4. A New Hairstyle.
I would bet you’ve got a pretty set routine with your makeup and hair during the week to streamline your “getting ready” process. But what if it was actually stunting your look in the long run, leaving you bored and troubled by your clothes? Try a sleek, low pony or even a “new” middle part as opposed to your steady, side-parted look and you just might be surprised by what a little variety in your beauty routine can do.
5. Accessories.
Maybe it’s not your entire wardrobe you need to replace after all! A new accessory could be just what your favorite looks are missing lately. Mis-match an old pair of similar earrings, stack a new bracelet combo, or hit up Mom and Grandma over the approaching holidays to see if they’ve done any recent purging. Keeping it in the family makes it that much more authentic and comfortable to wear.
