A Sunday morning snow day, like the one Portlanders just experienced, is only as fun as you make it. Sometimes here, they send panic through the entire city. Your best bet? Call out and cozy up. When we think of snow days we think of movies and tea, books and blankets, snowballs and homemade soup. You know, just as they should be. So we set out to gear you up for staying in and making the most of your snow day, dressed for the couch, working from home, or playing with the kids!
Pillow & Sleep Set | Robe | Slip | Moccasins | Throw | Mug | Book
I’ve visited over 250 closets and almost everyone owns an old, oversized, pilled sweater they gravitate towards on cold winter nights. It’s dingy, but you love it anyway… it’s like coming home. But it’s a crutch. Time to upgrade with some luxurious lounge wear! Every winter I put off buying house slippers (then poaching my husband’s) because the selection is just so ugg-ly. This year though, the selection out improved. The felted pairs inspired equally by Japanese and Scandinavian aesthetics (just like my dream kitchen) have caught my eye. The grey moccasins above are hip and have a bit of tread to weather quick sprints to the mailbox. Must-balance-out-the-boho with a fitted slip and floral silk robe. Grab a hot cup of cocoa, throw a warm wrap around you or some over-the-knee-leg-warmers, then get log in and lounge away!
Camisole | Bra | Shorts | Bitters | Earrings | Poncho | Sweatpants | Socks
I’m a big advocate of not wearing pants, always have been. Show me a snow storm in New Jersey, high winds in the Badlands, or sideways rain here in Portland, and every time I’ll still open up my drawer full of shorts and skirts just to at least give them a strong, minute:thirty consideration. To complicate things, I’m that person that’s like, “I’m sorry, is it cold in here?” My house remains at a tropical 80 degrees during the colder months, and I’ll tell you why: Because I’m 28 years old and it is not appropriate to face the world with jean shorts over tights in the dead of winter. So alas, I’ve settled and made silky shorts my JAM when it comes to lounging. And it doesn’t even matter that I’m pausing ten minutes into ‘Making A Murderer’ to put on a pair of long johns and socks because I’m cold, I’m still wearing shorts you guys! So my picks this month were easy. Keeping cozy at home doesn’t need to mean rolling out of bed, forgetting to brush your teeth until just before dinner, never ditching your PJs. It means you get to wear whatever you want, because it makes you feel awesome or sexy or snuggly! I almost always throw in some jewelry or wear lipstick while lounging because it seriously makes you feel like a million bucks!
Sunglasses | Leggings | Yoga Mat | Sports Bra | Sneakers | Hat | Jacket
If you’re wrangling the kids, that could mean a slight variance to our ensembles (and your availability to get work done), so we’ve included colorful active wear. We found some wildly printed leggings and yoga mats, as well as uplifting color patterns and cut-outs, trending in Spring 2016. Quality is always important, but even more so when it comes to the pieces you’ll sweat in. They’ve got to last! Accessorize with some sunnies and a dash of yellow. Then throw on a parka and head outside!
