Brian Michael Bendis recently called me with a styling request: he was appearing on the Seth Meyers show and needed a look that was sharp, a little tough, that would look great on TV.
A master storyteller, Brian is a five-time Eisner Award winner for both his creator-owned work and his work on various DC and Marvel comics. He was invited to discuss his new endeavor writing the iconic Superman story, as well as his new projects, including the Legion of Superheroes.
In his work, Brian has written characters that expand the idea of what a hero looks like, and what it means to be the best version of ourselves.
It makes me think of so many of my clients who are making phenomenal efforts in the world. I get to work with incredible people who – whether it be starting a wellness franchise from the ground-up, revolutionizing tech to serve the LBGTQ population, promoting awareness for early-prevention breast and ovarian cancer, or parents raising children – do what Brian writes about: they expand the idea of what a hero looks like.
Brian was in full work-mode when I arrived at his office and was popping in and out of meetings as I unpacked the options I brought. We had discussed the look he wanted before our meeting and some of the pieces he had that needed updating. He also needed new every-day clothing for his non-stop life. This Mobile Stylist session was perfect for him: he tried everything within his timeframe, in his space, and found several things he loved, all in the span of 90 minutes.
While on the show, Brian talked about having to “think like Superman” and using that work focus as inspiration to elevate his everyday approach to life. He talked about the deep connection we all have in looking for the greatest aspects of humanity, and the aspiration we share to discover our own superpower.
In his words: anyone can wear the suit.

For a similar look to Brian’s, here are some resources: this men’s leather jacket by Theory, a button down shirt from Eton, these dark wash jeans by Rollas, and these leather sneakers by M. Gemi.
