During my Style Sessions with clients, we spend a lot of time talking about clothing care, and I teach my tried and true methods for making clothes last. There are so many things you can do at home to keep your wardrobe looking great for years.
Make your sweaters look brand new with occasional maintenance.
One of the easiest ways to keep your knits looking great is by de-pilling them regularly. It’s also arguably the most satisfying wardrobe care chore. You can turn worn sweaters back into sharp staples again with a couple of tools. For thicker knits, I recommend the Sweater Stone. It’s a natural, volcanic pumice that you pull gently across your sweater to remove nubs. For finer knits, consider a lint comb.
Check out this Before and After. The left side is BEFORE and the right side is the much improved AFTER a little bit of TLC.
Look great every day with the best lint remover – especially if you have pets.
Some fabrics just love to attract stray lint and pet hair. There are lots of lint removers out there, but my favorites are reusable and really effective, including this one which can replace your adhesive-based, disposable roller. The brass bristles on this brush are great for removing pet hair, especially from cotton twills that love to hang on to it. A number of these brushes are available for purchase in our wardrobe care shop, contact us if you’re interested in having one shipped or delivered to you.
Taking time to care for your clothes will extend how long they last. Choose classic-to-you pieces made with quality materials and you’ll spend less money over the long haul.
