Red carpet events never fail to drum up plenty of dress discussion both before and after the show, and the Golden Globes last Sunday were no exception. This year I assisted Cheryl Strayed and her husband, documentary filmmaker Brian Lindstrom, as they prepared for the dreamy event. We decided to go for a classic, glamorous look.
The red gown is by Badgley Mishcka (badge-lee meesh-ka). We had Julia at Silhouette sculpt the neckline and adjust the length of the sleeves. All of the sparkling jewels are from TWIST. The ombre diamond bracelet is by Eva Fehren, the rustic diamond, lace-edged earrings are by Cathy Waterman, and the diamond ring is by Mandrel Studio. The sequin clutch is by Hoss from Parallel. And the metallic sandals are by Naturalizer! Brian’s one-button tuxedo is from Este’s and his shoes are Officine Creative from Halo, which are perfect to wear formally all buffed up and shiny or casually dressed down with dark denim.
Cheryl has worn red, electric blue, navy, hot pink and black in her WILD red carpet appearances. We’ve been focused on finding practical and flattering dresses that she will be able to wear again. Tadashi Shoji, Donna Karan, Badgley Mishka, Escada, Kay Unger and Zero & Maria Cornejo have been go-to designers. Comfortable shoes that fit a high instep and are formal enough for these occasions are few and far between. Brands I’ve looked to are Chie Mihara, Rachel Comey, Oh Shoes, Pas De Rouge, Paul Green and Naturalizer.
We are hoping to get one more chance (crossing our fingers for an Oscar nomination) to go all out. The look we have planned will be beautiful! Stay tuned.
